Absolute classic show from 31st of august 1978, with DIY originators, The Desperate Bicycles, and a repeat of their only session for the BBC. This alongside the legendary Wire, the equally marvellous Radio Stars and the genius that was/is Dr. Feelgood. (I am a huge advocate of the higher end of the Pub Rock phenomena, so be prepared for a pub rock month coming up, you know you want it!) All that and the peerless Eno!?
(Peels intro:) "Well hello honeybunchers, this is the Post Birthday Peel. Back in your midst with a session with the Desperate Bicycles to whom I was speaking to this very morning on a matter which I'll discuss with you later, if I remember. Among the records a track from the new Feelgoods album, odds and ends from a new Eno LP, three more from Radio Stars from their newie, something unpronouncable in Welsh, 4 tracks from Wire from their album, which sounds excellent, I've only heard one side if it, but that was very good indeed, also a new Skids single, so the whole thing sounds irresistible, I think you'll agree."
Around 23 minutes of the show is missing, 10 minutes near the end of the show, with the rest missing due to tape flips.

Thanks for all the Peel, Nick. This will certainly help to give me a nice warm feeling on the long winter nights ahead...
Yes, these Peel Shows are producing my largest audience so far. Pure nostalgia, but very interesting, and there's more to come.
Great to see you sharing tapes from the Peel Wiki. If anyone has any tapes to share of his shows they would be more than welcome there. I think he would have approved of the DIY ethos of your site and theirs ...
Hi mark , i appreciate the tone of your comment, unlike the previous condescending wrist slapping events from your colleagues at Peel Wiki. I thought the object was to share some John Peel shows? I could have typed it all out again myself I suppose, but what idiot would do that just to avoid netiquette faux pas's? To avoid further snottiness i will get round to crediting the peel wiki on all my peel posts where appropriate.
Any other shit will be deleted if no polite!
Have a good one,
Nick (former member of the peel wiki, and typer of at least ten of the peel show running orders thank you very much).
PS, that school teacher chap who thinks he owns the peel wiki seems determined to carry on with his shit on the top lip attitude. I think Mark has a higher standard of communication skills, and should be your spokesman. But on the brighter side, this discussion has pushed this peel show into my top ten hits list of all time.....as the teacher sarcastically mumbled....nice.
Hey, I remember those STANDARD C90 tapes, they may have been shaped like the Philips Compact Cassette, but were made by criminals. They used to shed oxide like crazy after one play. Indeed the only one on your background I could get any decent sound out of was Sony UCX.
Trying to find the name of the band that Peely boy played on one of his shows, Sunday I think.
It was a punk version of the ABBA song S.O.S.
Apologies about the vaugeness but the year was 1978, 79 or 80
Yeah,i know that one! It was SOS by The Favourites, 1979.

Absolutely brilliant Jonny, been trying to find the band and song for years. (Brought a tear to these old eyes)
Don't know why it was never released - great cover version.
Have a couple more I hope you could help with.
Don't have the names but one song started with monkeys screaming, and the other had the chorus "Who shot the Poles in their holes"
I know pretty random, but I was sure they both and sos were played the same week, but after listening to your download they werent there.
Cheers,
Ged
Hi Ged, the bands don't spring to mind immeadiately, but I will do some research.I like a challenge.
The peel downloads i provided were not the whole of the show in question,so they may have been from that show!I'll check it out.
Hi Jonny, managed to remember one of the songs - "Smart Patrol/Mr.DNA" by Devo, (who shot the poles song chorus).
Can't find which JP show it was aired though. Sure both songs were played on the same show.
